Did you ever find yourself in trouble early in your career for questioning the brief? You’ve dabbled in studio life, freelance life, and now run your own business or side hustle? Your default position is thinking about the end user first? Are you passionate about doing good work with good people for good causes? I need you!

My name is Tonielle, my business is called For Good Studio, and I’m looking for a fellow designer I can work alongside with to support each other in doing incredible work. I’m on the cusp of growth and I have some amazing opportunities knocking that I just can’t achieve on my own.

I work in the social innovation/social impact/start-up space doing everything from branding, print design, design thinking/strategic design, UX/UI and digital design. The majority of my work is with two collectives I’m part of and their wider networks – Bamboo Creative (part of the Enspiral ecosystem) based in Wellington and School of Participatory Design, in Melbourne.

Projects For Good Studio are currently involved in are varied. Here is just a taste:

  • Developing personas and job stories, UX & UI work for a new website and learning experience for Self:Cervix

  • Using strategic design to make sense of a large amount of complex data, and design a storytelling piece that is accessible for both government bureaucrats and the general public in ‘Valuing the Lived Experience’ for State Department, Family Safety Victoria

  • Updating an existing brand and developing it further with print and digital collateral to help an environmental scientist present crucial climate change data in a polished way

You need to have at least six years of varied industry experience, already running your own business or side hustle and have your own work and clients you’re passionate about and want to grow.

Other key elements to make sure you’re the right fit:

  • UX design experience and/or training

  • Experience in client and project management and can consider multiple stakeholders and their needs in your work

  • You want to collaborate as a peer, are interested in the future of work and are sick of being on the feast and famine cycle

  • You work hard, know the hustle and know your value

  • You’re comfortable being thrown in the deep end, using your intuition and research to feel out solutions and learn fast along the way

  • We’ll connect remotely, so it doesn’t matter where you live, but a good internet connection and similar time zone to New Zealand is important

What I can offer in return:

  • Coaching and help to upskill in strategic thinking, brand, graphic and human centered design methodologies

  • Connecting you with a global network of social impact freelancers – an incredibly inspiring bunch that are dedicated to community building, hosting events and retreats – work with us and then you become one of us!

  • Offering perspective changes, new experiences and encouragement to bring your whole self to your work

  • Working on solving the problems of tomorrow together rather yesterday on your own

  • Initially I estimate around 6-10 hours a week of capacity is needed, and once we find a good rhythm and I can spread the word, this could grow into much more

  • Hourly rate to be negotiated based on experience

If this excites you (and makes you a little nervous at the same time) and you’re up for the challenge, then please get in touch – I can’t wait to hear from you.
